Deadlifting Party

There were five of us pulling deadlifts tonight. Shawn, Aaron and Mike joined Maura and I for deadlifts tonight. It was fun! Shawn gave Maura and I some technical advice and Mike gave us some Z dills to work on. Good stuff! Here is how it went...

Deadlift
Conventional
135X5
185X5
Sumo
185X5
205X3
235X1
255X1X5
~Yet another misload. I am so glad someone else will be loading the bar at the meet. My plan was to pull 245 for my working sets. Mike Nelson notices the misload, but he lets me think I am pulling 245... I follow suggestion easy. LOL. Shawn pointed out a mistake I have made in the past, setting up too close to the bar and having to pull around my knees. My last two pulls felt the best, thanks to Shawn's corrections. So here is my best looking pull. I still have to work on removing the slack in my joints before I start the pull.

After deadlifts, we all goofed around with some kettlebell stuff. Maura and I worked on some swings, single and double. Mike and I are going to be giving a kettlebell/Z-Health workshop on Saturday January 5. Good times!

That's heck of a group you're working with.
Must have been a drastic change this year from RKC, TSC, Z-Health. Are you this progressive every each year?

Taikei,

Funny you should bring up progression! I was just thinking about what I was doing a year ago. A year ago I was struggling with a 225lb deadlift. I hadn't even signed up for the RKC. Two years ago I had just started resistance training and didn't even know what a kettlebell was! LOL!

nice pulls fawn!are you offsetting the overgrip hand an inch on your setup? can't tell from the video. and yes more slack out of the bar and your body before you pull. well done. has cheryl or maura shown you any power rack pulls? a few of those with some heavier loads might help as well.
btw cheryl has a great photo in this months PLUSA from the worlds. seriously intense photo.

powerlifting is SO much better with a solid group. almost impossible to do solo.

Mark,

I am not off setting my grip that I know of, certainly not intentionally... maybe one day the planets will align and I will remember everything and pull the perfect lift. LOL!

Gary showed us rack pulls last week.

We had two platforms loaded, it was a lot of fun last night!

Maura,

Thanks for all your help, you are an awesome lifting partner.

Mike,

You will have to bring Jodi sometime. Thanks for the help with the Z drills. You are a pleasure to have along!

Taikei, a year ago, Fawn was in school to become a personal trainer. Before that, she was a cook in fancy restaurants for 10 years. She's still a fantastic cook, but is now also a fantastic trainer and a strength athlete.

If she continues to be this progressive year after year, she will be a business woman in 2008, a member of City Council in 2009, a state senator in 2010, and a member of Congress in 2012.

fawn I was refering to taking the overhand grip out one finger width. it helps keep windmilling down.the line of pull is through the middle finger so when you undergrip it sets it out one finger width.taking the overgrip hand out one finger balances this out.windmilling at the top is very hard on the back.
and remembering everything and doing that perfect lift is what keeps everyone going back to the platform over and over.

Mark,

I have never heard of this off setting... I have been keeping two fingers on the knurling and the other two on the smooth. Should I try off setting? I only have 4 more DL training days left...

Babes,

I was in school TWO years ago, I finished in April of '06 and went to the RKC in April of '07. You see me as a politician, huh? Well I am certainly opinionated enough to run for office! LOL! Long live the Libertarians!

fawn,
yes,its no big deal really. just move the overgrip hand ONE FINGER width wider.Try it on your warmups and if it doesnt feel right drop it til next cycle. most people pull more squarely with it,especially sumo. but if it messes you up dont worry.

Alright Mark, I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
